Tea vs Infusion

Do you know the different between tea and an infusion?

This is a very important concept for those trying to support their body through natural means.

A tea is most often a pleasure beverage consisting of a smaller portion of plant material and steeped for a few minutes. One could get some effect through this method, depending on the plant, but in most cases very minor.

An infusion is a much stronger preparation using large quantities of herb steeped for a long time This method provides medicinal-strength results. The general rules for infusions are; for strong-smelling herbs in volatile oils such as Tulsi, require a few tablespoons of herb steep covered for roughly 20 minutes. More nutritive herbs such as Nettle or Oat Straw, you can use up to a full ounce by weight steeped at least 4 hours or overnight. Filtered the next day using a French press.

If you’re trying to extract mucilage from plants like marshmallow root or leaf, linden flower, even cinnamon, you would want to infuse your herb in cold water for best results. Infusions made with plants in higher proteins, like nettle, will not keep as long in the fridge.
